FAQ

Q. How much property can be purchased?

A. As a non-Cypriot, you can only have one property registered to your name at one time. You can acquire a piece of land of up to three donums. After signing a contract of sale, foreigners must apply to the council of ministers for permission to acquire property on the island. This procedure is a formality and can be handled easily by yourself or your solicitor.

Q. Can I bring my pet into Cyprus?

A. Pets may be brought into Cyprus after securing an import certificate from the Cyprus Veterinary Services. They must have had all necessary vaccinations and must be in quarantine for 6 months (home quarantine is possible). This quarantine time has been lifted for pets with certain documents/certificates (eg. pet passport). Further information can be obtained from Cyprus Veterinary Services:

Q. Can I import my household and personal effects?

A. Having purchased a property, non-Cypriots are able to import all their household and personal effects, duty free. The only change is a small fee levied on used electrical items, which is payable at the port at the time of entry.

Q. How big is a donum of land?

A. A donum is a third of an acre or 1338 m². Land measurements are generally calculated in donums.

Q. Who will look after my property and pay my bills while I’m away from Cyprus?

A. While you are away from the island, City Living can offer you their Property Management services. This includes undertaking inspections of your property, paying your rates (eg. council, water or sanitary rates) and performing any necessary repairs or maintenance on your property.

Q. What are the costs involved in purchasing a property in Cyprus?

A. There are a number of costs involved when purchasing property in Cyprus; these can be viewed in Essential Information on the City Living website.

Q. Is VAT imposed on properties in Cyprus and if so what is the rate?

A. Since May 1st 2004, all newly built properties attract a 15% VAT charge.
